It was a small group but we enjoyed a splendid evening last night at the 2nd annual Christmas party of the Omaha Chesterton Society. Referring to the religious intolerance currently being forced onto the public, Quint proclaimed at the outset,"Merry Christmas spoken here!" and we proceeded to make merry indeed with coffee, delicious treats, delightful conversation and the reading aloud of several Christmas poems. GKC was prominently featured, of course, but there were also poems from Eugene Field, Christina Rossetti, Edgar Guest, and Robert Herrick. Samples of these excellent poems I'll post here at The Book Den in the next couple of days.
It was a great time and those of you in the Omaha area who like excellent literature and warm-hearted fellowship need to get in on the fun here. Our next meeting is in February where we will discuss Jospeh Pearce's fine biography of Chesterton. Come on along!
And in the meantime, please know that last night's OCS contingent (Sister Rita, Dick, Chet, Cathy, Quint and Carol, Tom and Gerianne, Bill and the Hartfords) wish you a very Merry Christmas!
