The Highwayman is but one of the terrific poems by the excellent (and underrated) Alfred Noyes (1880-1958) but it stands out as a personal favorite. When but a child listening to my mother read this solemn but thrilling poem, my heart raced both with the tragic adventure Noyes' described and the wonderful language and unusual rythm he used to convey it.
