Athanasius contra Mundum

John Piper recently delivered a compelling address to the Bethlehem Pastors Conference entitled, Contending for Our All: The Life and Ministry of Athanasius. It is a bit long (18 pages or so) but well worth the read. It is quite good in giving a basic history of the Arian controversy (one of the most important in church history) and of Athanasius' bold stand for the truth of the Holy Scriptures against enormous odds. Several key applications of Athanasius' witness are shared by Rev. Piper in this excellent sermon -- a sermon which couldn't be more relevant to the Church of our own era, especially regarding our worldliness, cowardice and what seems to be an outright fear of holiness. Check it out.
