A New (Old) Slew of Book Recommendations -- Volume Three

See the earlier posts with this same title for the explanation of how our Christmas letter works and for the first batch of recommendations in my fiction list. Next time around, I'll start in on the non-fiction recommendations from last December's letter. Stay tuned...and stay reading!

9) The works of Sir Walter Scott. A fantastic find in a thrift shop 3 years ago landed me over 25 hardbound novels of this master. Most of them have been read in the time since and a couple already re-read!

10) The Three Musketeers, Twenty Years After, The Count of Monte Christo, The Man in the Iron Mask, etc. by Alexandre’ Dumas. Aside from Dickens, Dumas has become my favorite “big novel” author. He’s another you can read over and over.

11) The Neverending Story by Michael Ende. A classic fairy tale about books, imagination, heroes, courage and love that is as heartwarming a long novel as you’ll find.

12) In this final slot, I toss in a few more favorites who I’ve read frequently in the last 5 years (and many years before that!). They would include Charles Dickens; G.K. Chesterton; the mysteries of Erle Stanley Gardner and Dick Francis; humorist James Thurber; the Freddy the Pig books by Walter Brooks; and the Lord of the Rings trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien.
